Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *plā- ‎(to strike, beat; to beat one's breast; to cry, weep). Cognates include Ancient Greek πλάζω ‎(plázō), πλήσσω ‎(plḗssō, to strike), Latin plango ‎(strike, beat; bewail; lament for, mourn), Old High German fluohhon (German fluchen), Lithuanian plakti ‎(to strike) and Russian плакать ‎(plakatʹ).

  1. to weep, to shed tears, to cry
    լալ դառնապէս‎ ― lal daṙnapēs ― to weep bitterly, to shed bitter tears
    լալ վայրապար, զլամ կեղծաւորիլ‎ ― lal vayrapar, zlam kełcaworil ― to have tears at command
    լալ ի ծաղուէ‎ ― lal i całuē ― to cry with laughing
