Etymology[edit]

From *լուսեմ(*lusem), from *լուս-(*lus-), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱlu-n-s-, from *ḱlew-(to hear). Related to լուր(lur), լուռ(luṙ), լու(lu).

լսեմ (lsem)  (aorist indicative լուայ)

  1. to hear; to listen to
    չլսելոյն, չլուելոյն առնել‎ ― čʿlseloyn, čʿlueloyn aṙnelto turn a deaf ear to
    լուայ զի‎ ― luay ziI have heard it said that
    լուարո՛ւք ինձ‎ ― luarúkʿ injlisten to me, hear me!
    ոչ լսեն ինձ‎ ― očʿ lsen injthey do not listen to me
    լսել զչար հոտ‎ ― lsel zčʿar hotto perceive the foul odour
  2. to grant, to hearken to the prayer of
    լո՛ւր մեզ‎ ― lúr mezhearken to us, grant our prayer!
