Etymology[edit]

From *լուսեմ (*lusem), from *լուս- (*lus-), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱlu-n-s-, from *ḱlew- (to hear). Related to լուր (lur), լուռ (luṙ), լու (lu).

լսեմ (lsem)  (aorist indicative լուայ)

  1. to hear; to listen to
    չլսելոյն, չլուելոյն առնելčʿlseloyn, čʿlueloyn aṙnelto turn a deaf ear to
    լուայ զիluay ziI have heard it said that
    լուարո՛ւք ինձluarúkʿ injlisten to me, hear me!
    ոչ լսեն ինձočʿ lsen injthey do not listen to me
    լսել զչար հոտlsel zčʿar hotto perceive the foul odour
  2. to grant, to hearken to the prayer of
    լո՛ւր մեզlúr mezhearken to us, grant our prayer!
