Etymology[edit]

According to Ačaṙean, the origin is uncertain; խուփն (xupʿn) and perhaps կափ- (kapʿ-) are ablauts of this.

According to J̌ahukyan, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *kʰapʰ-, an intensive from of *keh₂p- (to seize; to grab).
