Etymology[edit]

The origin is unknown.[1] J̌ahukyan remarks, that relation with Proto-Indo-European *kred- (beams) is unlikely, whence Gothic 𐌷𐍂𐍉𐍄 (hrōt, roof), Old Norse hrót (roof).[2]
