Etymology[edit]

The root is ծամ- ‎(cam-), from *ծամմ- ‎(camm-), from *ծամբ- ‎(camb-), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵm̥bʰ-. Cognates include Sanskrit जम्भ ‎(jambha, jaw, tooth), Ancient Greek γαμφαί ‎(gamphaí, jaw of an animal, beak), Albanian dhëmb ‎(tooth), Old Church Slavonic зѫбъ ‎(zǫbŭ) (Russian зуб ‎(zub)) and Old English camb (English comb).
