An Iranian borrowing. Compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (cʾl /⁠čār⁠/), Persian چار (čâr), Avestan 𐬗𐬁𐬭𐬁 (cārā, means, remedy). Ultimately probably from Proto-Indo-European *kʷer- (to do; to make; to build).
