From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *ul-. Cognates include Ancient Greek αὐλός (aulós), Russian улица (ulica, street) and улей (ulej, beehive), Norwegian aul (wild angelica), Latin alvus (belly, hollow), Lithuanian aũlas (bootleg) and especially Latvian ula, ule (wheel hub). The root form may be preserved in post-classical ուղ ().
