Etymology[edit]
From גֵּיא בֶן הִנֹּם (gēʔ ḇen hinnōm, “valley of the son of Hinnom”), a valley near the old city of Jerusalem. The "son of Hinnom" was, according to the Bible, a Canaanite culture hero.
