From Proto-Semitic *diθʾ-. Cognate with Akkadian 𒌑𒇷𒀀𒊬 (dīšu [U2.LI.Asar], grass). Compare with Classical Syriac ܬܕܐܐ (sprouting grass, herb; spring).
