From הַקַּשׁ (hakásh, the straw) + שֶׁ־ (she-, that) + שָּׁבַר (shavár, broke) + אֶת (ét, [direct object marker]) + גַּב־ (gáv-, back of) + הַגָּמָל (hagamál, the camel), hence literally “the straw that broke the camel’s back”; a calque from English.
