From the Hebrew of the Babylonian Talmud. Related to a Jewish Babylonian Aramaic חתולין, a plural form appearing in the Targum Jonathan version of Isaiah 13:22, rendering the Hebrew אִיִּים (“jackals”) as חֲתוּלִין (“cats”).
