[edit]Perhaps from הוֹשֵׁעַ (hōšḗaʿ, “Hosea”) with the "addition" of יהוה (“YHWH (Yahweh)”), therefore meaning "Yahweh is salvation". See הוֹשִׁיעַ (hoshía', “to save”). Compare with יְשַׁעְיָהוּ (yəšaʿyā́hū).
