Etymology[edit]

The word has cognates in multiple Semitic languages Classical Syriac ܟܘܠܒܫܐ (kalbāšā), Arabic كَلْبِشْ (kalbiš), and Tigrinya [script needed] (karba) and Amharic [script needed] (karabō) with metathesis of the consonant /ɹ/ and /l/.
