Either directly borrowed from German Kran, derived via Polish kran or Belarusian, Russian, and Ukrainian кран (kran), or inherited from Middle High German krane, although that could have resulted in *קראָן (*kron). Ultimately from Old High German kran, from Proto-West Germanic *kranō.
