From Sanskrit आशीर्वाद (āśīrvāda), from आशिस् (āśis, “blessing”) (from Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?], compare Avestan 𐬀𐬴𐬌 (aṣ̌i, “blessing”)) + वाद (vāda, “statement”). Compare Tamil ஆசீர்வாதம் (ācīrvātam).
