Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Iranian *ā- (ad-) + *kan- (to fill).[1] The prefix is from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éd (to, at), while the verbal root is, contrary to Cheung, a variant of Proto-Iranian *kanH- (to dig), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kanH- (to dig).[2]
