أَسْفَرَ (ʔasfara) IV (non-past يُسْفِرُ (yusfiru), verbal noun إِسْفَار (ʔisfār))

  1. (intransitive) to glow, to shine, to beam
  2. to disclose, to reveal [with عَن (ʕan) ‘something’]
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 74:32-34:
      كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
      kallā wal-qamari wallayli ʔiḏ ʔadbara waṣ-ṣubḥi ʔiḏaʔā ʔasfara
      But no! By the moon, and the night as it retreats, and the day as it breaks!
  3. to lead to, to result in [with عَنْ (ʕan) ‘a result’]
    أَسْفَرَتِ ٱلْحَرْبُ عَنْ مَقْتَلِ ٱلْعَدِيدِ مِنَ ٱلْأَطْفَالِ.
    ʔasfarati l-ḥarbu ʕan maqtali l-ʕadīdi mina l-ʔaṭfāli.
    The war led to numerous deaths of children.
