Etymology

From Middle Persian or Parthian *ābrēq possibly via Classical Syriac ܐܖܪܝܩܐ (ʾaḇrēqā), attested as Classical Persian آبریز‏ (ābrēz) from آب (āb, water) + the present stem of the verb ریختن (rēxtan, to pour).

      يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُو نَ بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
      yaṭūfu ʕalayhim wildānun mmuḵalladū na biʔakwābin waʔabārīqa wakaʔsin mmin mmaʕīnin
      There will circulate among them young boys made eternal, with beakers, pitchers and a glass of spring water.
