Etymology
From Middle Persian or Parthian *ābrēq possibly via Classical Syriac ܐܖܪܝܩܐ (ʾaḇrēqā), attested as Classical Persian آبریز (ābrēz) from آب (āb, “water”) + the present stem of the verb ریختن (rēxtan, “to pour”).
