Etymology
- From Classical Syriac ܩܪܝܢܐ (qeryānā, “reading; holy scripture”).
- From the root ق ر ء (q-r-ʔ), from قِرَاءَة (qirāʔa, “reading, recitation”), from قَرَأَ (qaraʔa, “to declaim, to recite”).
