Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *būtak (“branch”), a derivation from Proto-Turkic *būta-. Cognate with Azerbaijani budaq, Bashkir ботаҡ (botaq), Kazakh бұтақ (būtaq), Kyrgyz бутак (butak), Southern Altai будак (budak), Turkmen pudak,Uzbek butoq, Karakhanid بُتَقْ (butaq).
