Akin to Arabic أُتْرُجّ (ʔutrujj), Aramaic תְּרוֹגָא (tərōḡā), אֶתְרוֹגָא (ʾeṯrōḡā), Classical Syriac ܛܪܘܓܐ (ṭəruggā), ܛܪܘܓܐ (ʾāṭruggā), Hebrew אֶתְרוֹג (ʾeṯrṓḡ), Middle Armenian թուրինջ (tʻurinǰ), Iranian borrowings, and Sanskrit मातुलुङ्ग (mātuluṅga, “citron tree”).
