Inherited from Middle Persian 𐭧𐭥𐭮𐭫𐭥𐭣𐭩 (hwslwdy /⁠Husrōy⁠/), 𐮰𐮵𐮽𐮹𐮵𐮱𐮵 (hwslwb' /⁠Husrav⁠/), from Old Median *Husravah, from Proto-Iranian *Hhucráwāh (renowned, famous), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsućráwās. Cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬊𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬀 (haosrauuaŋha, mythical figure) (from an unattested *𐬵𐬎𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬵 (*husrauuah)), Ancient Greek εὐκλεής (eukleḗs), Εὐκλῆς (Euklês), Vedic Sanskrit सु॒श्रव॑स् (suśrávas).
