[edit]Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (slgyn' /sargēn/), from Proto-Iranian *cákr̥, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćákr̥, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱókʷr̥. Cognate with Sanskrit शकृत् (śakṛt, “dung, manure”), Ancient Greek κόπρος (kópros, “dung, manure”).
