Etymology

From Middle Persian GMRA, ʾwštl (uštar, camel), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *úštras, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *ūrs- (buffalo). Compare Old English ūr.. Compare Avestan 𐬎𐬱𐬙𐬭𐬀 (uštra, camel), Old Persian 𐎢𐏁𐎲𐎠𐎼𐎡 (uša-bāri-, camel-borne), and Sanskrit उष्ट्र (uṣṭra, camel, buffalo), Perhaps related to Old Armenian ուղտ (ułt).
