Derived from the active participle of غَلَا(ḡalā, to be excessive, to be or become expensive), from the root غ ل و(ḡ-l-w).

غَالٍ (ḡālin) (construct state غَالِي(ḡālī), masculine plural غَالُونَ(ḡālūna), feminine plural غَالِيَات(ḡāliyāt), elative أَغْلَى(ʾaḡlā))
