Reborrowed from Arabic قَبَاء(qabāʾ), from Middle Persian kpʾh(kabāh, garment, cloak). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kep-(to split, cut). Cognate to Khotanese khapa(dress). Perhaps cognate with Latin cappa(cape).
