[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrawdʰás (“red metal; copper, brass”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rowdʰós (“red thing”), from *h₁rewdʰ- (“red”). Cognate with Middle Persian [script needed] (lwd /rôy/, “brass”) and Urdu لوہا (lohā).
