Etymology[edit]

Derived from the active participle of ⁧أَرَاحَ(ʔarāḥa, to let rest, to soothe) and ⁧أَرْوَحَ(ʔarwaḥa, to stink), from the root ⁧ر و ح(r-w-ḥ); compare ⁧رَاحَة(rāḥa, rest, comfort) and ⁧رِيحَة(rīḥa, smell).
