From Middle Persian myγ (mēγ, “cloud, mist”), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Parthian, from Proto-Iranian *Hmaygáh (compare Manichaean Parthian myg, Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬉𐬖𐬀 (maēγa-, “cloud”)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hmaygʰás (compare Sanskrit मेघ (megha, “cloud”)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃meygʰ- (“cloud, mist, fog”).
