Earlier also *pūtīnag and *pūtanag, whence Arabic فُوتَنَج (fūtanaj), Classical Syriac ܦܘܛܢܐ (puṭənā), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic פוּטְנַק (pūṭənaq), פוּטְנַג (pūṭənag). This etymology is incomplete.
