Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *kʷel- ‎(to move; to turn (around)). Indo-Iranian cognates include Ossetian цæрын ‎(cæryn, to live), Pashto څرېدل ‎(śaredal, to pasture, graze) and Sanskrit चरति ‎(cárati, he moves). Akin to Ancient Greek πέλω ‎(pélō), Latin colō, Old Church Slavonic коло ‎(kolo, wheel) and Armenian հոլով ‎(holov, rolling).
