Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀳𑀟𑁆𑀟 (haḍḍa) (see there for more) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), or directly borrowed from Sanskrit हड्ड (haḍḍa). By surface analysis, ہَڈّا (haḍḍā) + ـی (-ī). Cognate with Punjabi ہَڈّی (haḍḍī).
