Etymology[edit]

From the root ܚ-ܡ-ܥ (ḥ-m-ʿ). Parallel formation to Arabic حُمَّاض (ḥummāḍ, sorrel, dock). Doublet of ܚܲܡܘܼܨܬܵܐ (ḥammūṣtā, rhubarb).
