Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac as the passive participle of ܚܲܝܸܕ (ḥayyid, to unite); cognate to Arabic مُتَّحِد (muttaḥid) and Hebrew מְאֻחָד (m'ukhád). Doublet of ܡܚܘܼܝܕܵܐ (mḥūydā).
