[edit]Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܣܒܠܬܐ (sebbelṯā), from Akkadian 𒄑𒄿𒇻 (/simmiltum/). Doublet of ܣܸܡܲܠܬܵܐ (simmaltā, “ladder”).
