Etymology[edit]
Two possibilities:
- Diminutive of ܥܪܣܐ (ʿarsā, “bed”); compare Hebrew עַרסָל (ʿarsāl, “hammock, sling”).
- From the root ܥ-ܙ-ܠ (ʿ-z-l), related to spinning yarn.
