Assyrian Neo-Aramaic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܩܒܘܬܐ, from Ancient Greek κῑβωτός (kībōtós, wooden box, chest, coffer), from Aramaic תֵּיבוֹתָא (tēḇōṯā); therefore a cognate to Arabic تَابُوت (tābūt) and Hebrew תֵּבָה (tēḇā́).
