Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit मण्ड (maṇḍa, “the scum of boiled rice (or any grain)”). Cognate to Sinhalese මඩ (maḍa, “scum, mud, mire”). Doublet of މަޑު (maḍu)
