Etymology[edit]
From आस्ते (ā́ste, “to sit down”), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hā́stay, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hā́stay, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ḗsti, from *h₁ēs- (whence Sanskrit आस् (ās)). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἧμαι (hêmai, “to be seated”), Hittite [script needed] (ēša), Hittite [script needed] (āšzi).[1]
