From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥Hmás, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥H-mó-s. Cognate with Latin armus (shoulder (of an animal)), Proto-Germanic *armaz (arm), Proto-Slavic *òrmo (shoulder).
