[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *HubʰáH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HubʰáH, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ubʰóh₁ (“both”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἄμφω (ámphō), Latin ambō, Russian о́ба (óba), Latvian abi, Tocharian A āmpi.
