Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Háwṣṭʰas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háwštʰas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃éh₁os (“mouth”). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic оуста (usta), Latin ōs, Hittite 𒀀𒄿𒅖. See also आस् (ā́s, “mouth”).
