Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *𑀓𑀘𑁆𑀘𑀳𑀭𑀺𑀆 (*kaccahariā, “courthouse”); compare Sanskrit कृत्य (kṛ́tya, “action”) + गृह (gṛha, “house”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate with Assamese কাচাৰী (kasari), Bengali কাছারী (kachari), Odia କଚିରି (kaciri), Punjabi ਕਚਹਿਰੀ (kachirī), and Sindhi ڪَچَهَريِ (kachaharī).
