Borrowed from Classical Persian قَائِم (qā'im), from Arabic قَائِم (qāʔim). Compare Marathi कायम (kāyam).

   क़ायम होना, क़ायम रहना ― qāyam honā, qāyam rahnā ― to be firm; to stand by

   मैं अपनी बात पर क़ायम हूँ। ― ma͠i apnī bāt par qāyam hū̃. ― I stand by my words.
