[edit]Inherited from Prakrit खट्ट (khaṭṭa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-) without cluster simplification, from Sanskrit खट्ट (khaṭṭa, “sour”). Cognate with Punjabi ਖੱਟਾ (khaṭṭā).
