Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀔𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀸 (khaṭṭā), from Sanskrit खट्वा (khaṭvā, bedstead), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *kʰártwaH, possibly ultimately from Dravidian; compare Tamil [script needed] (kattil, bedstead), Malayalam [script needed] (kaṭṭil).
