Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan (compare Punjabi ਚੱਕਰ (cakkar)), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑀓𑁆𑀓 (cakka) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit चक्र (cakra), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *ćakrám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čakrám, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷékʷlos. Doublet of चाक (cāk), the inherited form in Hindustani. See there for more.
