Borrowed from Classical Persian چادر (čādar, čādur), itself ultimately borrowed from Sanskrit छत्त्र (chattra, cover, umbrella). Doublet of छाता (chātā). Compare Assamese চাদৰ (sador), Bengali চাদর (cador), Gujarati ચાદર (cādar), Marathi चादर (cādar), Punjabi ਚਾਦਰ (cādar).
