Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘓𑘰𑘮𑘜𑘹 (cāhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀘𑀸𑀳𑀇 (cāhaï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑀸𑀳𑁆 (*cāh) (see there and Hindi चाहना (cāhnā) for more). Possibly related to पाहणे (pāhṇe). Cognate with Gujarati ચાહવું (cāhvũ), Hindustani चाहना (cāhnā) / چَاہْنَا (cāhnā), Bengali চাওয়া (caōẇa), Assamese চা (sa).
