Etymology 1

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tánuṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tánuš, from Proto-Indo-European *ténh₂us (thin). Cognate with Latin tenuis, Ancient Greek τανύω (tanúō), Old English þynne (whence English thin).
